Address suggestions
When you type an address into the donation or volunteer form, what you have typed so far is sent to our server, which asks the City of Toronto’s public address register for matching addresses and returns a short list for you to choose from. We never ask your device for its location, and nothing is sent until you start typing. The suggestions are only a shortcut: every field stays editable, an address the register does not know still goes through, and the address recorded against a contribution is the one you confirm when you submit the form.
Why we collect it
Cookies and analytics
The Meta (Facebook) pixel runs on every page of this site. It sets its own cookie and tells Meta that a visit, a pledge or a donation came from one of our ads, which is how the campaign knows which advertising is working. Meta may connect that activity to your Facebook or Instagram account, and its use of the data is governed by Meta’s own privacy policy. It is not covered by the cookie banner: it runs whatever you choose there. You can stop it in your browser — most block third-party or advertising cookies in their privacy settings, and Meta offers its own ad-settings controls on your Facebook or Instagram account. The banner does still govern analytics: choose it and we use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without building a profile of you; decline and it does not run. That choice is kept in your browser under “ca-consent”, is not sent to us, and can be changed at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page. Separately, and regardless of what you choose, we record which link brought you to the site — the campaign tags in the address and the site you arrived from — for the length of your visit only. It is held in your browser’s session storage, not a cookie, is erased when you close the tab, and contains nothing that identifies you.
